Thankfully we now have a more balanced Supreme Court
Well as many of you already know we thankfully have a more balanced Supreme Court with the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito. I hope that with his confirmation the Supreme Court will now have a more balanced and logicial slant that will help to keep the court inside its proper bounds of government.
Exxon-Mobil posted more record profits. While I curse them everytime I have to hit the pumps I believe that in the long run higher gas prices will be for the best. Allow me to explain. This country needs far too much imported oil. Most of which come from less than stellar third world and middle eastern countries. My hope is that as prices continue to climb the American people's frustration level will as well. Hopefully this wil force companies to become more fuel efficient and to explore and develop more alternate fuel sources. Thus making us less dependant on oil for countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Venezula, and to a lesser extent Iraq. The less we depend on them for our fuel the less we will have to get entangled in the quagmire that often times abounds in countries such as these.
I read that President Bush and the big 3 of the EU are pushing to bring Iran before the United Nations Security Council. Boy this should be interesting. The UN has proven to be a morally corrupt and inept organization. I have no faith whatsoever that the UN will be able to set aside its partisan bickering and inability to reach viable decisions to set into action a plan to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Time and time again in the recent past countries that have stepped outside the accepted "norm" of international relations have received nothing more than strongly worded memos for the UN. I'm not saying that I advocate military action against Iran at this time only that I have no faith in the UN to correct the current policies currently taking place in Iran. More to follow on this topic soon.
The 4 major non middle eastern powers have called upon Hamas to renounce violence and to recognize Israel as a legtimate nation or have the funding currently allocated to Palestine cut off. Is this for real? Hamas is a terrorist group founded on violence and the destruction of Israel. Do the big 4 countries actually believe that now that they have been elected to run things that they will do a complete 180 degree change from thier founding pronciples? How could a terrorist group founded on religious fanaticism even thin of making a change such as this? I believe that a true "peace" in Israel/Palestine can not be a reality until one side or the other is removed for the area. The Western nations can talk all they want, as long as groups such as Hamas are funded by nations such as Syria and Iran what is their motivation to seek a peaceful agreement with Israel? Once again more to follow on this hotly debated topic in the future.
Another topic for discussion in the near future will be the open and porus border between the US and Mexico. A border that is not respected by our southern neighbor. How can we as a soverign nation tolerate the military or another country crossing our clearly defined borders at will? Not to mention the immigration problems that abound in that region of the country.
In closing this portion of todays opinions of mine I would once again direct your attention to a great new blog located at http://projectshamrock.blogspot.com/.
Thank you and I will return soon.
